CAMP RAMAPO

The Jewish Communal Fund is pleased to announce the awarding of a $1,000,000 grant from our Special Gifts Fund to support the exceptional work of Ramapo for Children. Founded in 1922, Ramapo for Children is a nationally recognized, not-for-profit organization serving children with a wide range of emotional, behavioral and learning disabilities. The grant will fund a major renovation of the indoor recreation facility.

In addition to its year-round programs, its unique Camp Ramapo located in Rhinebeck, NY, has kindled a spirit of hope in exceptional children for many decades. On a recent visit to the camp, Sue Dickman, Executive Vice President and Karen Adler, Chair of the Special Gifts Fund Committee of JCF, observed many children enjoying its adventure-based learning programs that promote positive character values, build social and learning competencies, and enhance self-esteem. With Bernie Kosberg, Executive Director, and a delightful 11 year-old camper as their guides, they watched children aged four to sixteen participate in sports, creative projects, chess and outdoor experiences led by staff who strive to provide a nurturing environment where friendships flourish.

“JCF’s Special Gifts Fund Committee recognized Ramapo’s program as one of the best in the country. And, we are inspired by the dedication and commitment of Ramapo’s board members, several of whom were counselors at Ramapo,” said Karen Adler. She added, “We are so pleased that the JCF’s $1,000,000 grant for renovation of the Recreational Center will help Ramapo provide the best possible facility for these children, as well as a positive experience that can be life-altering.”
