CHILDREN'S GIVING FUND

The Jewish Communal Fund Children’s Giving Fund provides donors with the opportunity to establish a donor-advised fund with an initial contribution of $1,800 on behalf of a minor to celebrate life events (e.g., birth, baby-naming, Bar/Bat mitzvah, confirmation, birthdays, graduation, engagement, marriage).

This program is open to children under the age of 18. Since minors cannot make grant or investment recommendations on their own, the fund functions as a “custodial” account, with an adult (parent, relative, or friend) authorized to sign all recommendations on behalf of the child.

The following administrative requirements apply:

  • Minimum initial contribution to establish fund is $1,800.
  • Minimum grant distribution is $36.
  • The administrative fee is based on the average daily fund balance and is deducted monthly. The annual fee schedule operates as follows:

Balances less than $5 million 0.75% (75 basis points) or $150, whichever is greater
    Next $15 million 0.50% (50 basis points)
Any amounts above $20 million 0.10% (10 basis points)

  • Minimum of $1,800 must be invested in the TempFund; the balance may be allocated to investment alternatives (minimum $1,000 per alternative).
  • When the child reaches age 18, the privilege of recommending grants and investment alternatives and the right to name recommenders and successor recommenders passes from donor to child. At that time, the fund will be subject to the same administrative requirements as any other donor-advised fund.
  • In the event a single fund is created for more than one child, the transition will take place when the youngest child turns 18.
  • Fund is named for the child(ren) on whose behalf the fund was created.
  • Children's names are included on grant recommendation letters.
